The problem

Legal services sold online have to overcome a trust gap that a generic template cannot close.

The brief

An Austrian legal services site covering contracts, document review and debt recovery, designed in Figma before any development began.

Why the prototype came first

Legal services sites carry more constraints than most: regulated language, an audience that reads carefully, and a client who is professionally trained to scrutinise wording.

Designing the whole site as a clickable Figma prototype meant every page, state and interaction was agreed before code existed. Structural changes are minutes of work in a prototype and days once built, and on a project where the client will review language line by line, that difference is the whole timeline.

Designing for a legal audience

Someone looking for a lawyer is usually dealing with a problem they did not choose and do not fully understand. They are anxious and they are comparing.

The copy is deliberately plain. Legal sites often mirror the register of legal writing, which is correct for contracts and wrong for a website: a prospective client who cannot follow the service description assumes the service will be equally impenetrable.

Each service states what it covers, what it does not, and what the first step is. That last item matters more than it appears, because uncertainty about how to begin is what stops people acting.

Structure

Services, credentials, contact. Nothing decorative between them. Qualifications and chamber registration are stated fully, because in a regulated profession the specific is the reassurance.

The build

WordPress with services as structured content, each carrying scope, exclusions and the first step in defined fields. That keeps the language consistent across services and makes an incomplete page visibly incomplete in the admin.

German-language considerations

German compounds run long, which breaks layouts designed against English text. Headings were tested with real German copy during the prototype stage rather than with placeholder text, and the type scale allows for it.

Design

Restrained, blue and yellow, professional without being severe. Photography is of the practice rather than stock, which in a profession built on personal trust is not a small distinction.

Accessibility

Tested rather than assumed. Legal services are used by people of all ages and abilities, and an inaccessible site excludes exactly the clients most likely to need help.
